For a good value replacement tyre, the wire-beaded Bontrager R1 is a great option, along with the Bontrager R2 and Continental Ultra Sport, both of which have folding Kevlar beads, to save a bit of weight and make it a bit easier to get the tyre on and off the rim.
For a good lightweight upgrade consider the Bontrager R3, or the top-end Continental Grand Prix 4000.
If you want the reassurance of extra puncture protection, albeit with a little added weight, try the Continental Gatorskin, or the impenetrable Continental Gator Hardshell.
For wet weather riding, the Bontrager AW range is great, or the Continental 4 Seasons, with added puncture protection too for the ultimate all year tyre.
Most tyres are available in 23c and 25c width options. For many years now 23c has been the default width, but 25c is becoming more popular, and it’s our preference too, but check your frame to ensure there is sufficient clearance.
If you’re heading off-road, go for the fast-rolling Bontrager CX0 in dry conditions, or the CX3 when it gets wet and muddy.
Unconditional Bontrager Guarantee - all Bontrager tyres come with a 30-day trial period, if you don’t like it, return it for a no-quibble refund.
