Do you want to ride a little further or longer, or don't want to be limited to where you can get to by how steep the hill is? Then make your next bike an electric bike. The technology in electric bikes have come on tremendously in the last few years. With lightweight, long-lasting batteries and reliable motors with a smooth power delivery, if you're finding a conventional bike is holding you back, these are the bikes to go for.
Here's a quick 101 on electric bikes...
- They are pedal-assist, there's no button to press to make them move, the motor only kicks in when you pedal too, so you still get a workout.
- The motor is legally limited to 15.5mph (25kph), so if you exceed this speed the motor will disengage and you're pedalling under your own steam.
- The motors have handlebar-controlled power settings (as well as off) so you can control the amount of assistance from the motor depending on how steep the hill is, how much effort you want to put in yourself, and how fast you want to go.
- The batteries will last for about 50 miles depending on use, and are removed from the bike with a key for charging, so no need to take your bike to a plug to charge.

During lockdown we have seen an unprecedented demand for bikes, for which we are very grateful, but unfortunately this has left us and Trek (and bike manufacturers in general) very low on stock, with most models temporarily sold out - here's what bikes we currently have in stock and coming soon.
