26/9/07: Trek 2008 Dealer Launch

Last week we visited Trek's UK headquarters in Milton Keynes to have a good look at the new Trek and Gary Fisher bikes, and particularly their flagship trail bikes, the Fuel EX and HiFi.
Trek's Fuel EX, whilst a name that's been around a while, now bears no resemblance to the bike it was a few years ago. Last year it underwent a major overhaul with the travel upped from four to five inches, and was transformed into a really capable and easy to ride bike. This year the travel and overall geometry stays the same (if it ain't broke...), but with three design refinements - stiffer, lighter linkage plates, the rear pivot moving to the wheel axle to eliminate braking interference, and the lower shock pivot moving to the chainstay swingarm for better movement through the travel. Has it made it better? The proof is in the riding - so call by the shop and test our demo bike to find out for yourself!
Gary Fisher's HiFi caused quite a stir when it was launched last year. Not only was it really fun to ride - fast and flighty - but it raised the bar on how light a five inch travel bike could be. The design stays the same this year, but likely to cause even more interest is the fantastic looking Carbon Pro version. At 23 lbs, this really has to be seen, and picked up, to be believed. Ours will be in stock as soon as the first production run is ready, hopefully sometime in October, and in the meantime our demo bike is ready and waiting for testing.
Meanwhile on the hardtails, the ranges for both Trek and Gary Fisher stay pretty much the same, but with some smart looking new paint jobs - with white being a popular colour in both. The Gary Fishers, that have perhaps suffered a bit of an identity crisis in previous years with a few different designs, looked particularly good, with a plain design and striking bold colours - we particularly like the bright red Big Sur.

So all in all a good day out, looking a lots of shiny new bikes, and catching up with the guys at Trek. We even got some free beer for our troubles - nice!

Most of our 2008 bikes are already in stock, so call by the shop to check them out, and if you fancy trying the Fuel EX or HiFi (or both!) to find out for yourself how good they are then give us a call or drop us an email to book a test ride.
