20/11/09: BEN Delivery

A big thank you to everyone that brought in old bikes and parts recently for our delivery to the BEN Namibia charity. For those of you that don’t already know about the project, the idea is that, for example, a tyre or chain that has reached the end of it’s useful working life in the mud of Surrey on a performance mountain bike, will still be very useful to people in dry and dusty Namibia, using their bikes more gently, often as their only way to get to work and school.

We’d been collecting parts over the year, mainly items that have been replaced in our workshop, but the response to the email we sent to our customers the week before we set off was so great we had to upgrade the Transit van we’d booked to a Luton to fit it all in! Just about squeezing in the last bike, we set off round the M25 and made a successful delivery to Re-Cycle in Colchester, who organise the onward shipping to Namibia.

If you missed the chance to clear some space in your shed this time, don’t worry, we’ll be making more deliveries once we’ve collected another van load, so you’re welcome to drop stuff round to us any time, and we’ll put a post on the website and email our customers closer to the time too.

Give us a call or drop us an email if you’ve got stuff to send but want to check it’s worth sending first (the answer will almost certainly be yes!), and if you want to find out more about the charities involved check out the BEN Namibia and Re-Cycle websites.
