Autumn 2014 – 2015 Bike Range, 2014 Sale Bikes, New Arrivals and Humous 16 Oct 14

With what felt like an endless summer finally coming to a close, it seems like a good time to update you on everything we’ve been up to in the shop…

 2015 Bike Range

Most of our 2015 bikes are here now, with lots of exciting new models from Trek and Genesis.

Wheel size is still the big talking point in mountain bikes. Trek’s take on this is to offer 29er wheels for the bigger frame sizes, 27.5 for the smaller sizes for hardtails, and offer both sizes in full-suspension.

This brings the addition of the more playful Fuel EX 27.5 alongside the mile-munching Fuel EX 29. We’ve got demo bikes of both, along with the Remedy 27.5, so you can decide what works best for you.

Meanwhile with Genesis, the heart of their mtb range continues to be their UK-friendly steel hardtails, the 29er High Latitude and 27.5 Latitude covering the wheel sizes.

On the road, disc brakes are the hot new thing. We’re convinced, but find out for yourself as our Trek Domane Disc demo bike is here and ready to go. Continuing the disc theme, we’ve also got the new Equilibrium Disc from Genesis arriving later this month, alongside their Croix de Fer cross bike.

Add to that Trek’s new lightweight Emonda platform, and we’ve got plenty of drop bar options for the tarmac and beyond.

Check out our full range of 2015 bikes here.

2014 Sale Bikes

As sure as Summer leads to Autumn, the news of our new bike range leads to our sale of last remaining 2014 bikes. There are some great bargains to be had, including our Ibis Ripley and Mojo HD-R ex-demo bikes, and Mojo HD-R frame - head over to our website here for a current list of what’s left.

Clothing

Moving upstairs, whilst it felt a little perverse to be putting out waterproofs and thermals a few weeks ago when it was still 20 degrees outside, our Endura Autumn/Winter range is on display, ready to keep you riding through the winter. Remember, there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!

We’re also now stocking Kask helmets, with their new Vertigo II helmet arriving soon, as worn by Team Sky, and tested by Chris Froome in this year’s Tour more often than he would have liked.

New Arrivals

On a personal note, there were new arrivals for both Roger and Dan at the beginning of the year, in the shape of Henry and Freya, so apologies if we’ve looked a little more bleary-eyed than usual sometimes this year!

Beyond that, the shop has a couple of new arrivals planned too, with two new bespoke frame brands.

We’ve been back in touch with Nicolai, our old friends in Germany that we’ll now be working with directly, and we’ve also visited Belgium, to meet Jaegher, a frame builder with a long heritage (that includes Eddy Merckx on their customer list), but with a very modern approach to custom steel. More on that in the New Year though.

Humous

And finally, after a more than a year in the works, Waitrose reopens today. As the biggest in the South East apparently too, just imagine how many varieties of humous that’ll mean.

And with a brand new multi-storey car park offering free parking for two hours, you’ll be able to peruse the chickpea dips too, with plenty of time left to head down to your favourite bike shop.

As always, we know there are lots of shops to choose from, so thanks to everyone that’s shopped with us this year, whether you’ve bought a bike or an inner tube, and we hope to see you again soon.

Happy Riding!

The Head For The Hills Team – Dan, Rog, Jamie, Josh, Tom, Tom

2014 Bike Sale 15 Jul 14

It's that time of year again, our 2015 bikes are arriving thick and fast and we need to clear some space, so click here to grab yourself a bargain...

Don't just like us on Facebook, now follow us on Twitter too 14 Dec 13

We've gone social media crazy this year. After managing to get ourselves onto Facebook earlier in the year and living to tell the tale, we've jumped in with two feet, and are now up and running on Twitter too. So if you prefer tweets to posts, following to liking, then click here or on the little bird in the corner. Or better still, if you want to see the same photos with different captions, do both.

Finally, like us on Facebook 16 Jul 13

Okay, so we accept we may have been a bit slow off the mark on this one, but we have at last got ourselves organised and set up our page. In fact we've had a page since 2010, which Facebook set up for us apparently, although this was news to us until recently! Anyway, we've now claimed the page, and will be doing our best to post up all the excitement from the shop. So if you want to head over and give us a like, click here or on the blue square in the top corner of the page that the more social media savvy amongst our customers might recognise.

Trek Fuel EX 29 12 Jun 13

A few years ago, when we were all riding around on small wheels, the Fuel EX was the go-to, all-conquering, award-winning, full-suspension trail bike to be riding. So what's the bike to be on now? The bigger, better, Fuel EX 29. It uses the same suspension platform that made the original Fuel EX such a great bike, and has 120mm travel front and back, and of course 29" wheels. If you want something with a bit more travel, Trek have also released a 140mm travel Remedy 29, but we think the Fuel EX 29 is set to become the next go-to full-suspension bike for UK trail riding.

There are three aluminium and two carbon bikes in the range starting with the £2200 EX 7. The £2500 EX 8 and £3400 EX 9 complete the aluminium bikes, followed by the £3300 EX 9.7 and top of the range £4200 EX 9.8 carbon models - see them all on the Trek website here. We've got an EX 7 and EX 8 in stock, and an EX  9.7 on the way (all shown below). We've also got an EX 8 demo bike ready to go, so don't take our word for it, come and try it for yourself - drop us an email, or give us a call to book a demo.

Fizik Test Centre - are you sitting comfortably? 9 Mar 13

Nothing can stop you enjoying your ride more than an uncomfortable saddle, so we've just signed up to be a test centre for Fizik saddles. Fizik do three different saddle shapes, based around their Spine Concept system, with a different shape depending on your flexibility - flat and narrow for flexible snakes, waved and wide for rigid bulls, flat and wide for in between chameleons. In each of the three shapes there is a version with and without an central channel, so six different saddles in all to choose from, and by being able to test them all first, you can make sure you end up sitting on the one that's comfortable for you.

To compliment their lovely saddles, we've also got the full range of Fizik bar tape in the shop, which now comes in two thicknesses, and a new tacky version - with the bar tape wheel of fortune to make it easy for you to choose the right one for you.

Call by the shop to get saddle testing and find out if you're a snake, chameleon, or bull, and to give the wheel of fortune a spin.
